Simply put, THE PORTERS are the brand new soul/R&B incarnation of the PARKA KINGS, the Detroit soul/ska band that rules the Midwest from 1993 – 1998. Featuring the distinct vocals of Brett Warren and a solid brass backbone, THE PORTERS take the amazing live pub-rock energy of the PK’s and combine it with home-bred Motown/Stax feel good soul. What do we call it? “Amphetamine Soul”–that’s what! The last time we had bands of this nature was during the 80’s, when Dexy’s Midnight Runners, The Redskins, Q-Tips ruled the UK pop charts and made serious dents in the United States through new Wave. In recent years, there’s been a re-surgence of blue-eyed soul through bands like The Pietasters from DC, The Inciters from San Francisco, and even now the Cherry Poppin Daddies album is more on the soul tip. Punk, ska, mod/scooter, and pop fans immediately respond to the hand-clappin, hip shakin’ style of The Porters, plus old Parka Kings fans are already lining up to buy this debut album “In The Black”. The Porters leave a trail of new fans wherever they go, and look to tour the Coasts and beyond this coming Winter!
