Description
Throwing extra elements of funk and soul into the mix, THE PIETASTERS third album veered even farther away from the alternative ska scene — a genuine, melodic, warm, life-affirming spray of classic soul and modern rock. Luckily, the band’s Motown/reggae edge isn’t sacrificed as a means to an end — the music is as tight as ever, particularly on the opening double threat of “Told You the First Time” and “Set Me Up,” both complete with glittering horns and healthy, gospel-driven backing vocals. After more pop and rocksteady and a British Invasion-ish cut by trumpeter Toby Hansen, a cover of the Zombies’ “How We Were Before” rounds out the affair, finishing off one of the band’s smartest, sweetest, lightest records. Originally released in 2003 on Fueled By Ramen, at the time an European label issued a 300 press edition which in recent years bacame a holy grail for completests. Now issued via the band, initial copies for mailorder sold out in 24 hours. We have some, and will be limiting purchases to 1 per customer.
