The legendary EL BOSSO & DIE PING PONGS are back with a brand new album! The band originated during the European revival of the mid-80s and was a dominant band in Germany (along with No Sports, The Busters, The  Braces) through 1992 when the band parted ways. At that point member “Richie The Professor” launched a successful solo career under the new moniker DR RING DING – and the rest is history! EL BOSSO reformed in 2003 due to popular demand, and this is their second album since that reunion! THE INCITERS play Northern Soul music, a genre that originated in the north of England in the 1960s, taking inspiration from America’s Motown greats like the Temptations, Stevie Wonder and the Supremes. Coined by the British press to describe the club scene in the North, where DJs played rare soul records from obscure independent labels all night long at venues like the Wigan Casino, Golden Torch, and Blackpool Mecca.

Northern Soul takes the Motown/Stax ethic but adds a stronger back-beat with more adventurous production, and THE INCITERS continue this tradition in grand style on their new 11 track album SOUL CLAP.  With 11 members wielding drums, bass, guitars, a full horn section, and three strong female vocalists, THE INCITERS  have no problem filling a room with the powerful sound of soul. The three vocalists — Emily Pegoda, Betsy Kniffin and Dani Wood — each take turns singing lead while the other two sing backup. Their choreography has an improvisational character to it as each of the singers cues off the moves of the others.  THE INCITERS first formed back in 1995 and had a successful 10-year run before breaking up in 2005 – leaving behind a massive following in Europe that demanded their return year after year. In 2011, they got their wish as original member / bandleader Rick Kendrick went to work putting the band back together. The Inciters re-formed with some new, younger faces and picked up right where they left off.  Right after the group reformed in the spring of 2011, they embarked on another successful European tour, released a teaser 7” single on Scorcha in Germany, and then got to work to record their comeback album for 2012 – SOUL CLAP!

From what we know this four piece had contracted a very rare and highly contagious disease that nobody could diagnose.  Because of this, fans were afraid to just touch a copy of the LP – you can imagine what that did for sales!  The band had given up on live shows altogether.  Copies of the LP that survived seemed to have been scrubbed clean by the owners, and also included a “farewell note” from the band, which we have put into Google translate for non-Spanish speakers:
“We’re very ill, all of us. The doctors can’t seem to find what is wrong. Regardless of what they say, we know something bad is going on inside us. For this reason we’ve rushed these recordings to vinyl in an attempt to preserve our legacy. The inspiration for this style of music came after a trip to England in search of a doctor to cure our illness. During our stay we stepped into a pub where they were performing a music the people called “reggay” or “rocksteady”, the band was composed of Jamaican immigrants so we believe this music must belong to that far away land. On our return to Madrid, recalling that night, we decided to emulate that sound on our LP. Due to our strange sickness we don’t know if we’ll ever get to see if this style of music catches on or if our LP survives the test of time. We hope it does.”  Hypocondriacs Madrid, 1969

JUMP UP will reissue “60′s Rocksteady and Reggae” on vinyl for the first time in over 40 years mid- March 2012.

Rubén López & The Diatones are the new and old blood of the European Jamaican scene. Formed from well known bands including  The Kinky Coo Coo’s, The Oldians, Flight 404, singer Ruben Lopez (Malarians, Peeping Toms, etc.) delivers on this debut full of sundry sounds and catchy melodies. Thirteen tracks of sweet and original reggae with soul.

The Oldians return with their third full-length, delivering more of their unique blend of rocksteady, ska and jazz. Following up their last album of jazz classics done ska, this one featues eleven originals lead by the sweet sultry vocals of Leire Etxarri. This septet knows how to put the jazz back into ska & reggae!

Daniel Flores is a musician, producer, and journalist from Buenos Aires, Argentina, who helped form beloved trad-ska band SATELITE KINGSTON many years ago. He also lends his keyboard talents as a session player for international figures such as Pauline Black, Roy Ellis, Chris Murray, and Victor Rice. This debut solo album was recorded during the first half of 2011, mainly in Buenos Aires, but also in Sao Paulo, New York and San Francisco. It is a dedicated traveler’s album, benefiting from the talent of more than 25 musicians from six different countries. No two songs share the same line up. For example, in “Hard Man Fe Dead” (Prince Buster), Japanese guitarist Atsushi Ukito, American bassist and producer Victor Rice, Spanish singers from Smooth Beans and Argentine drummer Esteban Descalzo work together brilliantly. Tom Waits and Frank Sinatra are also covered, going beyond his trademark rocksteady, ska, and reggae. Released on vinylwith MP3 download card.

EL GRAN MIERCOLES “THIS IS SURF-STEADY” LP vinyl is totally unique! The band is made up of members from the MALARIANS, SHAKE IT UPS, DR JAU & THE PEANUT VENDORS, MR T BONE’s European band…and all of these cats have backed up and recorded with the great LAUREL AITKEN. In short, this album takes surf classics and turn them into Jamaican rock-steady and ska, and ska classics and turn them into surf….plus originals that are true “SURF STEADY”. SALLY BROWN “EL PALABRA ES LA LEY” CD released by the band is a six piece band formed in Madrid in 2004, dedicated to the 80′s ska sound which they felt was truly ignored in the Spanish scene! Highly highly influenced by 2 TONE  and other musical scenes such as northern pop (The Housemartins), power pop (The Jam) and 80′s soul bands like  Dexy’s Midnight Runners or The Redskins. One quick listen and you also are reminded of the Unicorn revival sounds of THE BUSTERS and MR REVIEW – get this! Sung mostly in Spanish which I would have to say is quite refreshing!

Finally, the long awaited second album from Spanish early reggae & ska champs THE UPSTTEMIANS. We carried their last album a few years ago and people immediately wanted MORE! Presenting “‘Reggae Lessons’ on the new label Oldies But Rudies, once again they dive in the classic jamaican styles from the 60′s – powerfull rhythms , delicate vocal harmonies, superb horns and keyboards, with a bunch of guests including MR T BONE and  DAVE HILLYARD.

RODDY RADIATION’s band successfully takes the best parts of rockabilly, minus the cheesiness that all too often is associated with the genre, and then puts it to a laid back traditional ska beat. Should we expect anything less? Of course you already know him as the legendary guitarist of The Specials (who also wrote their classics ‘Rat Race’, ‘Concrete Jungle’ & ‘Hey Little Rich Girl’), who also later formed blues influenced acts The Bonediggers and The Tearjerkers. He’s a veteran and true innovator of both the 2-TONE ska movement and the English rockabilly revival scene.

Radiation’s distinct voice is smooth and melodic, yet with pub grit. The fact that his guitar playing is superb goes without saying, but his ability to seamlessly combine both ska and rockabilly without losing the integrity of either genre in downright amazing. The record kicks off with the title track, “Blues Attack,” and it sets the tone for the rest of the album with its rockabilly solos and ska backbeat. “Blue Guitars” starts off with a barn burning rockabilly riff and then mellows out before raging again for the chorus of the song.
